The AHS Graphics Design Communications Academy provides instruction on the skills and techniques of computer graphics, electronic imaging and production using scanners, digital cameras and computer-based hardware and software (such as Adobe Photoshop, and Adobe Illustrator) and all the other essential skills to begin a career in the design field.

The AHS Graphic Design program provides you with the opportunity to develop an understanding of color and composition, design and typography. You will be trained in creative problem-solving and learn to offer solutions that are effective in the business world. Emphasis is placed on learning skills and techniques of computer graphics, electronic imaging and production.

Cable Servicing Tech

The Communications cabling class is designed to teach students the common safety and techniques associated with the installation of Television, Internet, and Telephony cable and its signaling. Students are taught the installation techniques of the broadband tap to customer premises, connection to the customer home, and installation of cabling inside the home.

The students are also taught the introductory techniques used by Service Techs in the Broadband Industry. These include the basics of Channel Signal reading, Signal Interference, and DOCSIS theory.

Digital Publishing

The Digital Publishing course is designed for the student who wants an in-depth experience in the production of a media publication. The advanced study and application of photo composition skills, page layout and design skills, headline and caption writing skills, and advertising skills are emphasized. These courses are designed to provide students the opportunity to work with advanced technology, strengthen their analytical and problem-solving skills, improve their communication skills, and manage responsibility.

Students receive guided instruction in the fundamentals of journalistic writing, photojournalism, graphic design, budget management, and organizational skills necessary to produce the yearbook and various other publications. Students also develop their abilities to work as a team.

Students will use Adobe InDesign and Adobe Photoshop to design and produce the various publications throughout the year. The aim of the class is for students to be responsible for every aspect of production. Opportunities will be given to gain Adobe Industry Certification.

Web Design

The Web Design Program of the Auburndale High School Communications Academy prepares the student for successful employment in the web design field by utilizing industry standard software and best practices. Using Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Dreamweaver and Adobe Flash, students will learn how to plan, develop, and design websites from beginning to end. Not only do students learn HTML code language which is the basis of all web documents, but they will also have the opportunity to sit for certification testing during the program and become Adobe Certified Associates.

CAD Engineering

The Drafting and Design Technology program prepares students to develop and design technical drawings and plans used in Architectural Design, Engineering, and Construction. The program provides students with instruction in fundamental and advanced drafting skills as well as training in several drafting disciplines using the latest technology of Computer Aided Drafting and Design (CADD). Students will be using the most updated software AutoCAD 2012, and will be training towards an Industry certification exam in AutoCAD.

The students will be participating in several Blueprint competitions, this past year in 2011, Nicolas Delcastillo, from Auburndale High School, won the Polk County Builders Association “Best of Show” for his 2 story contemporary floor plan. Web Design

The AHS TV production studio is known as HDTV – Hounds Daily Television and we are a part of the Instructional Television program (ITV) of Polk County. We are responsible for getting the “happenings” of Auburndale out each and every day. Our news show is both relevant and fun to watch and we proudly participate in the yearly Video Awards held in May. We work in Final Cut Pro and Motion to produce our shows. We offer introductory classes as well as advanced classes if you already have experience and want to jump in with both feet! We are looking forward to you joining our program.
